FORGET BAR RESCUE! THE NEW GIPSY NIGHTCLUB, WILL HAVE A SWIMMING POOL! EXCLUSIVE!
- January 23, 2014 - 7:07pm
You may have seen Gipsy Nightclub featured on Spike TV's Bar Rescue. If you haven't, you're not missing much. Basically, bar owner Paul San Filipo asked the show to redesign his nightclub that was desperately in need of a revamp, to say the least. The show was filled with drama whether Paul was firing employees, screaming for a cocktail or demanding more JANET JACKSON, he gave the network what they wanted! To us... it just seemed like another day in Gay Vegas! Paul, who is also the owner of Piranha Nightclub, was not satisfied at all with Bar Rescues redesign. When the new club was revealed with its new name SBLV, which sounds more like an STD than a clubs name... the employees literally started crying because the legendary GIPSY sign was gone. SBLV was an acronym for "South Beach Las Vegas" and the inside bar featured a giant light up sign that said "GAY OL' TIME", which according to the staff was more offensive than anything. Paul was livid, and walked out on the entire production. Yet, it seems it was the motivation he was looking for and with a $2,000,000 investment, you are looking at actual renderings of the new Gipsy Nightclub which is scheduled to open this Summer, 2014.
HERES THE DEETS: Gipsy was Las Vegas' first gay nightclub and now will be the pioneering and only LGBT nightclub with a pool. The new GIPSY will be a Day-Club and Nightclub featuring indoor and outdoor poolside entertainment. There will be nightly pool parties, food service, indoor and outdoor private cabanas with TV's and personal refrigerators. The club will be open 7 days a week, as well as the pool, which will feature celebrity lifeguard Pamela "Hot Chocolate" Manderson, I think she was on that TV show GAYWATCH. LOL
There will also be Go-Go dancer platforms built into the pool. With $2,000,000 in construction and decor renovations, Gipsy is hoping to be one of the most luxurious and unique LGBT venues. The nightclub will feature nightly aerial acts, entertainment, pool tables, dart boards and much more. It sounds like a great time to us, as long as Paul keeps the Piranha's out of the pool!

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS SURPRISES DIVAS LAS VEGAS STAR FRANK MARINO AND GETS SOME HIGH HEEL POINTERS
- January 21, 2014 - 4:45pm
He is a local Las Vegas legend who came to Las Vegas from New York with a dream. Frank Marino is the star of Divas Las Vegas, a female celebrity impersonator show where men dress in drag to create very realistic illusions of the legendary artists they portray. On Sunday, Jan. 19, was the first time in Frank Marinos 30 year history, as star of the show, that he was able to watch his own show. He had just recently had surgery and was not able to perform that night. As it seems, fate had aligned, that same night none other than Neil Patrick Harris decided to check out Divas Las Vegas to see if he could get some pointers for his upcoming role as Hedwig in the Broadway production of John Cameron Mitchell's cult musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Frank Marino and Neil Patrick Harris watched Divas Las Vegas together and when we asked Frank Marino what he thought of his own show! He said, "They were great!" Frank said Neil had a great time hanging back stage with "the girls" who also gave him pointers about walking in heels and let him try on various wigs. He said he learned one thing about Neil though, "he doesn't really like it when you bring up his role as Doogie Houser." "My boyfriend brought it up and had to reassure him that he was so lucky to have had a role that has become so iconic and lasted the test of time" When asked what Frank thought about Neil Patrick Harris starring as Hedwig he said, "I was a little confused, until I saw his performances on the Tony Awards" "He is very, very talented!" You can see Frank Marino in Divas Las Vegas at The Quad resort and casino. www.thequadlv.com www.frankmarino.com You can see Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch starting March 29th at the Belasco Theatre in New York City.
BACKDOOR, NO MORE. FIRE CAUSES $100,000 IN DAMAGES.
- January 21, 2014 - 11:42am
Vegas' oldest gay latin bar, The Backdoor is closed after a fire causes $100,000 in damages. Dispatchers received the 911 call at 6 a.m. from someone passing by who said smoke was coming from their air conditioning unit. One individual was treated for smoke inhalation on scene but refused to be taken to the hospital. Investigators said they can't rule out that the fire may have been caused by careless smoking although there was also improper wiring, extension cord use, and overloaded outlets. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause. The fire started in the storage room where a majority of the damage was, the rest of the building has severe smoke damage. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue was able to put out the fire within minutes. Three people were in the lounge when it was started.
Phoenix Gay Bar and Lounge Opens in Vegas
- January 20, 2014 - 5:53pm
After 8 years of business the straight owned, gay bar, previously known as the Escape Lounge has sold. The new gay owners Shaun Hunt (32), Landon Heins (32), and Gabriel Cressy (34) are excited to announce that the new bar named The Phoenix Bar & Lounge is 100% locally gay owned and operated. According to Gabriel Cressy, the new trio owners (whom he revealed are in a polyamorous relationship), purchased the bar from Jeff Kesar who currently still owns Goodtimes Bar & Grill. Gabriel Cressy, who has been described as a "driven nightlife entrepreneur" said that they "think very differently and are open minded", that they are not only a gay bar but are open to all walks of life. They bill themselves as a gay / alternative bar & lounge and say they are open to everyone. Their primary focus is on the art's, performances, and community and their Facebook page states their mission is "to show pride in our community through acceptance and inclusion, communal effort, art, self expression and participation." When asked about the name, Gabriel referenced the Phoenix from Greek mythology that obtains new life by rising from the ashes of it's predecessor. In this case, the ashes being the long time running Escape Bar & Lounge. The bar is a 4800 square foot bar with a lounge atmosphere, 2 daily happy hour specials, weekly karaoke, pool tables, darts, patios, special events and more! The Phoenix also hopes to open the existing kitchen and add grill to their many amenities. If you're looking for a different, interesting new bar, check them out. Although Phoenix is currently opened Gabriel told us there are a lot of things still being upgraded at the location including a mural on the entire outer building being painted by professional local artist Gear Duran who is currently only on Day 3 of the week long project.
